The Roots

Helsinki meets Berlin
The building and construction industry faces the consequences of globalisation, expansion of the European domestic market and cyclical, as well as structural crisis, causing various challenges and basic changes. The classic architectural and civil engineering disciplines design and building - are increasingly replaced by a holistic consideration of the process of planning, financing, construction, operating and conserving or recycling.

Helsinki Metropolia (STADIA Helsinki until 31 July 2008) and HTW Berlin both define internationalisation and the orientation towards the East as a central target. In this respect are Finland, the City of Helsinki and Helsinki METROPOLIA much more advanced. Close relations to the Baltic States can be traced back until long before the Fall of the Iron Curtain. With respect to the jointly run international master’s programme ConREM, two universities of applied sciences from two different countries have the same targets and intentions concerning their future development. The Construction and Real Estate Management course has been developed in close collaboration between the former STADIA Helsinki Civil Engineering course and the HTW Berlin Civil Engineering course. Both parties deliver the programme in equal parts. Apart from the home institutions HTW Berlin and Helsinki METROPOLIA students are coming from all over the world. Lecturers are not only Finnish or German but also come from Estonia and Lithuania.

Project and Culture Competence for Architects and Civil Engineers
ConREM is designed for professionals in the field of architecture and civil engineering who wish to manage international projects for building construction and real estate in the future. Understanding for different cultures shall be aroused as an essential qualification to cooperate in a global market in a leading position. Mastering these challenges, as well as the English language are central contents of this master programme.
